MY STORY
Hello. Although this site is dedicated to my work as a professional Voice Over Artist, we all know that behind every artist is a person with a unique story and perspective. Whether you are a potential or past client, a VO peer, a mentor or teacher, friend, agent, producer or internet stumbler, you have decided to give me a few additional minutes of your time to hear part of my story and gain some insight into my perspective. Thank you for taking the time to read this short biography and getting to know me!
I was born and raised in Washington, D.C. a not-such-a-long, long time ago. My brother gave me my first drum set when I was 5 years old, by 12 I was doing my best to play along to every Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye and Sublime record I could get my hands on. I became fascinated by music and the dramatic arts at a young age and attended Fillmore Arts Center, the Levine School of Music and played in the marching and jazz bands at Wilson High School.
I moved to New York at 18 and spent 4 years learning the music business at NYU. During that time I worked at J-Records in the promotions department, helped build The Ishlab, a recording studio in Brooklyn, NY and toured with a live hip-hop band from Richmond to Ithaca; rocking the college circuit, opening for Jurassic 5, hosting the hottest weekly open mic in DC and being a full fledged character.
After hiking the Appalachian Trail and piloting a few Nation spanning road trips, I finally made it to the lovely Nor-Cal town of San Francisco. It was there that I discovered voice-over. I enrolled at Voicetrax in Sausalito in 2006 and never looked back. I studied with some great teachers and gained some lifelong mentors, including Samantha Paris, Thom Pinto, Bob Bergen, Charlie Adler, Nancy Cartwright, Jeff Howell, Dean Panaro and Natanya Rose. Oh! And Brian Sommer. You can't forget Brian Sommer. I mean, have you seen that man's shoes? I digress...The improv bug bit me in 2007 and I started studying at BATS. I would say my most profound study, as an actor, took place with Bobby Weinapple at Seydways Acting Studio. It was there I truly started to develop my craft as an actor and explore the depths of the human imagination.
Like all Washington natives, particularly those with the pleasure of having a K-12 DCPS education experience under their belt, I take great pride in my DC roots. After a bunch of years on the West Coast, some serious soul-searching and a quick trip to LA, I decided to make the move back to those roots. Washington, D.C. My home town. I work as a multimedia specialist, producer, sound engineer/editor and sound designer with various non-profits including American Councils for International Education and the Education Development Center.
During my shedding time, I'm honing my craft. Making music. Doing voice over. Being creative. Collaborating with other people that are creative. Developing my talents and discovering new ones. I believe in making art for art's sake. I visit museums and art galleries. I ride my bike. I climb rocks. I learn. I am passionate about education and the arts. I like people. I like working with people. Let's work together.
